Dialects Included

This dictionary includes the dialects from St. Lawrence Island and from Chukotka. It is primarily of the St. Lawrence dialect but includes most Chukotkan variants when there are differences.

How are Entries Organised

The sections are sorted into Yupik bases, postbases, and other appendices, where entries are organized alphabetically by Yupik to English in volume 1 and part of volume 2. There is also an English to Yupik index, that follows the appendices, which is organized alphabetically in volume 2.

The precursor of the present dictionary was the Yupik to English (including a English to Yupik index) A Dictionary of the St. Lawrence Island / Siberian Yupik Eskimo Language (Badten et al. 1987), and it is available through libraries as a physical print dictionary.
